Guitarist/composer Seth Andrew Davis, who founded the Kansas City-based Mother Brain Records with me, has hosted recording and live stream sessions at his studio at the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri.Â
Over the past two to three months, we have been accruing material for two new albums of our free improvised duo, Symbiotique. Symbiotique 2, The Maximal Effect, will be released on CD, digital, and streaming this spring. Symbiotique 3, titled Microscopic, will be released sometime in the second half of 2021. I will also be recording a solo saxophone album to commemorate my 40th birthday this July.
Brad Whiteley and Michael Eaton began their musical relationship in Bloomington, Indiana in 2004. After relocating to New York City to pursue music careers, they resumed playing as a duo as well as collaborating in Eaton's quartet Individuation.
Whiteley can be heard on Eaton's two albums for Destiny Records, "Individuation" (2014) and "Dialogical" (2019), and Eaton can be heard on Whiteley's quintet album "Presence" (2019), also on Destiny.
This album documents their duo rapport for the first time in a studio setting.
Symbiotique, my duo with guitarist and laptop artist Seth Andrew Davis, is working on new material.Â
We host livestreams on Facebook generally once per week, and if you have a Facebook account, you can like the "Mother Brain Records" page and be alerted when livestreams happen.Â
We have also been improvising in Seth's studio with winds and electronics, and in itself this has been artistically rewarding. Following its mixing and editing, this material will be released in January 2021 as Symbiotique II on Mother Brain. You can hear "Maman" from the album now; it is a flute improvisation modified by filters in Ableton Live.
